The name LANGHELT seems little researched, in the UK at least, and as my main family
tree has a connection to this name, I thought I would start a website dedicated to the
name. As far as I can tell, all the LANGHELTS in the UK are descended from Gottfrey
LANGHELT, born circa 1720. Early research suggests that perhaps the family originally
came from Markershausen in Germany, but this is to be explored further.
I invite anyone with any details, corrections, updates or any citations to add to the site,
to please contact me and let me know about them so that I may enhance this site for the
benefit of all who may have an interest.

I have registered the name as a research project with the Guild of One Name Studies.

There are probably derivations of the name i.e. LANGHELL, LANGHETT and LANGHILT or even
contractions such as LANG or LAING - as there are in my own tree. A recent contact suggest that the
name was originally LANGHELD and the spelling changed through phonetic pronunciation throughout the

I aim to follow the UK based lineage, but will be happy to expand this where evidence
is presented and cited. The site will only record one generation of descendants of
female LANGHELT's that marry, or else the site may become too large
for its purpose.

I have entered a few 'orphaned' names, where I have just details of births and deaths
but no links to any families. There are a few referenced marriages but as yet I cannot
connect them to the correct lineage. I hope that I will be able to allocate them to
their correct families over time. There are a few 'UNKNOWNS' as well, especially where
marriages have been referenced but the spouse's name is not known for definite. Any
assistance here would be appreciated. I have accessed the 1911 census in some
instances, and hopefully will get a few more families 'placed'.

I welcome all criticisms, comments or corrections where I have not provided any
documented citations. This is a 'living' site dedicated to our ancestors, so I want it
to be right.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
